SOMAY Elastomeric "WALLMASTIC"

Product No. 890

SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC", when properly applied to a properly prepared, structurally sound, vertical masonry wall surface, according to the manufacturer's instructions, will prevent water penetration through the coating membrane, even from rain driven by winds up to 100 miles per hour. It creates a surface membrane that resists water penetration; it fills pores, bridges and seals hairline cracks and stops leaks.  SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC" is the highest premium quality product so it looks better, longer. SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC" is exceptionally durable and is highly resistant to mildew and chalking.  It resists cracking, chipping flaking, blistering and peeling.  It breathes and lets vapor escape. "WALL MASTIC" can be used on new construction or to upgrade older buildings.

SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC" is part of a two (2) coat system that must be applied strictly according to these printed instructions and label directions, only to properly prepared, structurally sound, vertical, masonry wall surfaces.

SURFACE PREPARATION: The secret of a successful painting job is proper surface preparation.  Surfaces MUST be free of anything which could adversely affect the adhesion of this coating to the surface, including loose, scaling, peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking, flaking, chalking or powdering paint; dust, dirt, sand, soot, grease, oil, tar, wax, soap film or petroleum-based residue; lye, lime, chlorine, salt, calcimine, efflorescence, or any other chemically reactive substance; and must be completely free of all mildew, mold, fungus, or any other growing organism of any kind.  Infirm surfaces MUST be made firm.

WARNING!  Sanding or scraping to remove old paint manufactured prior to 1950 that contained lead pigment may generate lead dust.  Exposure to lead dust may cause adverse health effects, especially in young children and pregnant women.  To control exposure to lead dust use protective equipment, such as a properly fitted respirator, and follow proper cleanup procedures.  For more information in the US, call the NATIONAL LEAD INFORMATION CENTER at 1-800-424-LEAD.

MASONRY SURFACES: Water blasting, pressure cleaning, power sanding or sandblasting may be used to remove infirm, powdering and chalking paint.  To remove dirt, grease, etc., wash with water and detergent and then rinse thoroughly with clean water.  To remove mildew, mold, fungus, etc., scrub with a solution made with 16 fluid ounces (473 mL) of liquid household bleach and 2 fluid ounces (59 mL) of detergent in one gallon (3.785 L) of water.  Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Patch all cracks.  You should have a completely clean and firm surface before any new coating is applied.

APPLICATION RATE: SOMAY Product No. 530, "Surface Conditioner" must be used as a Prime Coat underneath SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC".  The "Surface Conditioner" must be applied at a rate to provide a minimum dry film of 2.5 to 3.5 mils thickness.  To develop this thickness, one gallon may be used to cover approximately 170 sq.ft., and NO MORE than 235 sq. ft. on a smooth, non-porous surface.  The actual spreading rate will be less on rough, textured, and/or porous surfaces, in which case more material must be used to develop the required minimum film thickness.  Let product dry thoroughly before application of SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC".

To create a waterproofing membrane, SOMAY Product No. 890, SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC", must be applied at a rate to provide a minimum dry film of 6 to 7.5 mils thickness.  To develop this thickness, one gallon may be used to cover approximately 90 sq. ft. and no more than 115 sq. ft. on a smooth, non-porous surface.  The actual spreading rate will be less on rough, textured and/or porous surfaces, in which case more material must be used to develop the required minimum film thickness.  The first and second coat together MUST develop a minimum total dry film thickness of 10 mils over the entire wall surface, which means if you apply Product No. 530 at 170 sq.ft./gal., you can apply Product No. 890 at 115 sq.ft./gal. and if you apply Product No. 530 at 235 sq.ft./gal., you can apply Product No. 890 at 90 sq.ft./gal..

Both coating products MUST be applied full strength as manufactured and supplied by SOMAY, and may not be thinned, diluted, or adulterated in any way whatsoever.

APPLICATION:  Apply only at temperatures above 50° F. (10° C).  Stir thoroughly before using and occasionally while using. Apply paint as it comes in the can from the manufacturer. Apply generously, using brush, roller or spray.  Avoid excessive brushing or rolling.  Two coats will provide longer lasting durability.

DRYING TIME: Will be affected by temperature, humidity, sunniness, wind or air movement, etc. Under normal drying conditions, SOMAY Elastomeric "WALL MASTIC" will form a dew and rain-resistant membrane in approximately 30 to 60 minutes after application and should be completely dry in approximately 24 hours.  A longer drying time will be required if the surface being coated is not completely dry, is colder than 50° F., if too thick a coat is applied, if the relative humidity is higher than 90%, or if the air temperature is below 50° F., or if the air is calm.

CLEAN UP: Immediately flush spills or drips from shrubbery, walkways or driveways before product is allowed to set.  Clean hands, brushes, rollers, tools and other equipment immediately after use in warm, soapy water.

PRODUCT LIMITATION: Waterproofing coating systems are designed to prevent water penetration through the film from the outside.  Any coating system may fail whenever water gets in between the surface and the coating.  This is most likely to occur where there is a break or junction of one surface and another surface, such as at a parapet and the roof, or at windows, doors, or wherever stucco is cracked or otherwise incomplete or in poor condition.  It is important that the condition of the structures be firm and sound before beginning to apply any coating, and if necessary, to take measures to correct problem areas, especially any opening which will allow water to get in behind the coating.  Note:  This product should NOT be used below normal grade or ground level, or where it will be subject to standing water.
