PRODUCT USE: SOMAY Product No. 472, Custom Color Wood Stain, is recommended for exterior or interior use on any wood surface. It provides a flat finish that enhances the grain and
texture of wood, including horizontal or vertical siding, rough sawn siding, shingles, smooth woodwork, paneling, plywood and furniture. COLOR AVAILABILITY:
SOMAY Product No. 472, Custom Color Wood Stain, is a Clear Base that can be tinted to one of dozens of permanent, non-bleeding, non-fading, Custom Color Stains. SURFACE PREPARATION:
The secret of a successful staining job is proper surface preparation. Wood surfaces MUST be absolutely clean and free of any previous finishes, down to the bare wood, and must also be free of any dust,
dirt, soot, grease, oil, wax, fungus and mildew. Normally, hardwoods and close-grained woods do not require a filler. However, all nail holes, dents and voids should be filled with a paste wood filler or
plastic wood of approximately the same shade as the selected wood stain finish. Except on rough-sawn siding or shingles, wood to be stained should be sanded with the grain until perfectly
smooth, if an even stain color finish is desired. APPLICATION: Apply stain only at temperatures above 50° F. (10° C). Do not apply in damp or rainy weather. Stir thoroughly before using
and occasionally while using to maintain a uniform color of the stain. If the job will require more than one can of Custom Color Wood Stain, mix all together in one larger container before starting,
to be sure of getting a uniform color for the entire job. Experiment with a sample of the same wood you plan to finish until you obtain the desired color and effect. Apply with spray machine, a
broad flat brush, or a clean soft piece of cloth. Apply stain sparingly, working with the grain, spreading evenly over the entire surface to obtain a uniform color. Normally, the more stain applied, the
darker the color will become. If a lighter color is desired, using a second clean soft cloth, very gently wipe the surface with the grain, removing just enough stain to get the depth of color desired. This
must be done before stain sets up. THINNING: This stain is ready to use as it is received in the can. If paint seems too thick or heavy, thin sparingly with mineral spirits.
DRYING TIME: Normally sets up in approximately 5 to 30 minutes, depending on the porosity of the wood, temperature, humidity, air movement, etc. It is recommended that wood stain be allowed to dry
overnight before applying a finish coat. FINISH COAT: For maximum durability, it is recommended that the stained wood surface be coated with one or more coats of SOMAY
's Product No. 756 or 770, Clear High Gloss Varnish, or Product No. 772, Clear Satin Finish Varnish, applied after the stain is thoroughly dry. COVERAGE: On smooth hardwood
surfaces, a gallon will normally cover 400 to 500 sq.ft. On rough-sawn siding, shingles or soft, porous woods, coverage may be approximately 150 to 200 sq.ft. per gallon. CLEAN UP
: Clean brushes with mineral spirits, turpentine or synthetic reducer.
