PRODUCT USE: SOMAY Product No. 572, Water-Repellent/Sealer Coating is recommended for exterior or interior use on unpainted, porous
wood surfaces, where a water repellent coating is desired. It provides a clear, protective moisture barrier that helps to resist water penetration into the pores of the wood, thus resisting the
degradation of the wood from moisture penetration, as well as mildew and fungus growth, which may cause wood rot, etc. The protection that is provided by Water-Repellent/Sealer Coating is
visibly evident by water beading on the treated surface. When the water beading becomes less evident, a re-application of another coat of Water-Repellent/Sealer Coating is required to provide
continuing water repellency. SOMAY Water-Repellent/Sealer Coating
is especially formulated for our severe tropical climates and to be far superior to nationally advertised competitive products. SURFACE PREPARATION: The secret of a successful
application job is proper surface preparation. Wood surfaces MUST be bare, i.e., free of any previous finishes. They must also be absolutely clean and free of any substance which could prevent
the penetration of the product into the pores of the wood or the adhesion of the product to the wood surface, such as dust, dirt, sand, soot, grease, oil, tar, wax, soap film or petroleum-based residue; lye,
lime, salt, chlorine, calcimine, efflorescence, or any other chemically reactive substance; and must be completely free of all mold, fungus, mildew or any other growing organism of any kind. Infirm
surfaces MUST be made firm. APPLICATION: Apply Water-Repellent/ Sealer Coating
only at temperatures above 50° F. Stir thoroughly before using and frequently while using to maintain a uniform consistency of the coating. Apply using an airless spray machine, a
broad, flat brush, or roller. Apply generously with the grain, working into the pores of the wood surface, and then spreading the Water-Repellent/Sealer Coating
over the entire surface to obtain a uniform coating. WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS: Apply only at temperatures above 50° F. Do not apply in damp or rainy weather. Do not apply
within one hour of dusk, as the evening dew could dull the finish if it has not dried to the touch. THINNING: This Water-Repellent/Sealer Coating
is ready to use as it is received in the can. Thinning will reduce the per-centage of solids in the coating, which will have a deleterious effect on its perfor-mance as an applied Water-Repellent/ Sealer.
TINTING: SOMAY Water-Repellent/ Sealer Coating
may be used as a Wood Stain "Clear" Custom Color Tint Base, to which Universal Colorants may be added by the retail store to make one of dozens of permanent, non-bleeding, non-fading wood color stains. COVERAGE: On some exceptionally porous surfaces, more than one coat may be desired to completely seal all pores in the surface. On properly prepared smooth
dense hardwood surfaces, a gallon will normally cover approximately 250 to 350 sq. ft. On rough-sawn siding, shingles or soft, very porous woods, coverage may be approximately 150 to 250 sq.ft./gal.
DRYING TIME: Under normal drying conditions, this coating "sets-up" in approximately 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the porosity of the wood, temperature, humidity, air movement,
exposure to direct sunlight, etc. It is recommended that the coating be allowed to dry overnight before applying another coat. CLEAN UP
: Clean brushes and other application tools with mineral spirits immediately after use. |
