SOMAY No. 383
is an exceptional "Premium" quality, 100% Acrylic Resin Based, waterborne coating, that is ideal for application to properly prepared exterior and interior walls and trim surfaces whenever a durable, beautiful "Eggshell" finish is desired. It can be used on wood, metal surfaces such as aluminum windows and siding, galvanized and/or primed steel surfaces, vinyl siding, masonry surfaces such as stucco, brick, stone, plaster, wallboard, drywall, cement composition panels, architectural plastic and foam forms, gutters, drip strips, shingle siding, shutters, doors, trim, and decorative features – practically any kind of surface on a house.
This exceptionally high quality paint breathes, so it resists blistering, chipping, peeling flaking and chalking, providing much longer
durability than "flat" finishes. It contains the maximum amount of mildewcide, biocides, etc. allowed by U.S. Laws & Regulations, so it is as resistant to the growth of mold and mildew on the
surface of the coating as it is possible to make it.SURFACE PREPARATION: The sur-face to which SOMAY No. 383 is to be applied MUST be thoroughly clean
and completely free of anything which could adversely affect the adhesion of the coating to the surface, including: all previous coatings which are glossy, loose, scaling, chipping, flaking, blistering, powdering, peeling or chalking; all dust, dirt, soot, sand, gravel, grease, oil, uncured or infirm tar, curing agents, parting compounds, wax, soap film, rust, oxidation or petroleum-based residue; lye, lime, chlorine, salt or salt film, calcimine, efflorescence, or any other chemically reactive substance; and MUST be free of all mold, mildew, fungus and other growing organism. Infirm surfaces MUST be made firm.
CLEANING: A high pressure (min. 2,500 P.S.I. at the tip) water blast should be used to thoroughly clean all exterior surfaces. Mildew and similar growths MUST be killed
with a 2%-3% chlorine solution in water (e.g. "Clorox" diluted 1:1 with water), followed by a thorough rinse with clean water. Allow clean surfaces to dry thoroughly.
PRIME POROUS SURFACES: Porous surfaces such as wood, masonry, stucco, plaster, concrete, etc. may be pried with SOMAY "Prime & Seal" (Clear) or SOMAY "PST", Primer, Sealer, T
opcoat (Clear), a versatile, universal, waterborne primer. EXTERIOR STUCCO SURFACES
which were previously painted and have been pressured cleaned to remove the old, chalky paint, should be primed with SOMAY SURFACE CONDITIONER (White) using one (1) gallon (3.79 L) for every 200 sq.ft. (18.58 sq.m.) of surface. Allow to dry thoroughly.
FERROUS METAL (STEEL) SUR-FACES: This paint can be applied directly to clean, weathered, galvanized steel surfaces, or to primed steel surfaces. Unprimed
steel surfaces can be primed with SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer. DO NOT THIN: This paint SHOULD BE APPLIED FULL STRENGTH as it is supplied by SOMAY. NEVER THIN, DILUTE or
ADULTERATE with any other material. Thinning will reduce the long-term durability and the mildew inhibitive qualities of the applied coating. APPLICATION RATE:
Whenever this paint is being applied without a prime coat, we recommend TWO (2) FULL COATS, each 2 mils (50.8 microns) thick be applied, providing a total dry film thickness for both coats of 4 mils (101.6
microns). Apply first coat on a very smooth, nonporous surface, using one (1) gallon (3.79 L) to cover up to, but never more than, 300 sq.ft. (27.87 sq.m) with a 2 mils thick coating.
Allow paint to dry thoroughly between coats. Apply second coat again using one (1) gallon to cover each 300 sq. ft. of surface with another 2 mil thick coating. The actual
spreading rates will be considerably less on rough, textured and/or porous surfaces, in which case more material must be used to develop the desired dry film thickness of 4 mils over the entire surface. APPLICATION METHOD: May be applied using a high quality brush, a very smooth, very short nap (1/8") roller, or airless spray equipment. WEATHER CONSIDERATIONS
: Apply only when both ambient and surface temperatures are above 50° F (10° C). Apply only when the weather will be fair for a sufficiently long time for the coating to dry. Before
application, keep from freezing while in transit or storage. Store in cool areas protected from exposure to direct sunlight. DRYING TIME: Drying time will vary depending on
both ambient and surface temperature, relative humidity, wind or air movement, exposure to sunlight, thickness of coating applied, etc. Under ideal drying conditions, 50% (or lower) relative humidity,
75° F (24° C) or higher temperature, forms a dew or light shower-resistant membrane in approx. 60 minutes after application, and dries sufficiently in approx. two to four hours to permit the application of
the second coat. CLEAN-UP: Using clean water, IMMEDIATELY flush spills or drips from shrubbery, walkways, driveways, etc. Application tools and equipment may be cleaned
with warm, soapy water before the coating dries.
CAUTION!
Harmful if swallowed. Do not take internally. Close container after each use. Avoid prolonged contact with skin and breathing of vapors. Use with adequate ventilation.
