"PREMIUM" 100% ACRYLIC LATEX  SURFACE CONDITIONER & PRIMER
for Porous Surfaces

Product No. 530-01 - "White"

PRODUCT USE: As a Primer, Sealer, Penetrant and Binder on any exterior or interior porous surface, as well as on any previously painted exterior wall surface evidencing light to medium powdering or chalking prior to the application of a finish coat of high quality acrylic latex (water-thinned) paint.

RECOMMENDED FOR: Can be used as a prime coat on new, properly cured concrete, stucco, plaster, drywall, wallboard and new wood, as well as on previously painted exterior surfaces that have become moderately powdery or chalky. To determine if "Surface Conditioner & Primer" is needed before painting, rub your hand over the exterior wall surface. If a light to moderate amount of powder or chalk comes off on your hand, then a coat of "Surface Conditioner & Primer" should be applied as the first or prime coat. If a heavy amount of powder or chalk comes off on your hand, then you are NOT ready to paint and additional surface preparation is required. "Surface Conditioner & Primer" is not a substitute for proper surface preparation and is not formulated to be used as a finish coat.

SURFACE PREPARATION: The secret of a successful painting job is proper surface preparation. Surfaces MUST be free of anything which could adversely affect the adhesion of this coating to the surface, including loose, scaling, peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking, flaking, chalking or powdering paint; dust, dirt, sand, soot, grease, oil, tar, wax, soap film or petroleum-based residue; lye, lime, chlorine, salt, calcimine, efflorescence, or any other chemically reactive substance; and must be completely free of all mold, fungus, mildew or any other growing organism of any kind. Infirm surfaces MUST be made firm.

Scrape off all loose, peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking or flaking paint. Wire brushing, pressure cleaning, power sanding or sandblasting may be used to remove powdering and chalking paint. To remove dirt, grease, etc., wash with water and detergent and then rinse thoroughly with clean water. To remove mildew, fungus, etc., scrub with a solution made with 16 fluid ounces (473 mL) of liquid household bleach and 2 fluid ounces (59 mL) of detergent in one gallon (3.785 L) of water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Patch all cracks, and when dry, sand smooth and seal. You should have a completely clean and firm surface before any new coating is applied.

WARNING!  Sanding or scraping to remove old paint manufactured prior to 1950 that contained lead pigment may generate lead dust.  Exposure to lead dust may cause adverse health effects, especially in young children and pregnant women.  To control exposure to lead dust use protective equipment, such as a properly fitted respirator, and follow proper cleanup procedures.  For more information in the US, call the NATIONAL LEAD INFORMATION CENTER at 1-800-424-LEAD.

MIXING BEFORE PAINTING "Surface Conditioner & Primer" can be used as it comes in the can, or it can be tinted with one quart (946 mL) of the finish paint added to one gallon (3.785 L) of "Surface Conditioner & Primer". The finish paint must be a high quality 100% acrylic latex (waterborne) paint. Mix thoroughly before applying. Thinning is never recommended, but if applicator believes it is necessary, use clean water very sparingly. Do NOT add oil, varnish, mineral spirits, turpentine or colors-in-oil to "Surface Conditioner & Primer"

APPLICATION: Apply only at temperatures above 50° F. (10° C). Stir thoroughly before using and occasionally while using. Apply generously, using brush or roller. Avoid excessive brushing or rolling. DO NOT THIN or ADULTERATE with any additives. Apply over the entire surface at the same time and in sufficient amount to prime, seal, penetrate and bind any powder or chalk that remains on the surface following the surface preparation.

COVERAGE: To develop a 2 mil dry film thickness using 90% Transfer Efficiency, apply at a rate of 300 square feet per gallon on a smooth, non-porous surface. On a porous, rough or textured surface, a gallon should cover from 150 to 250 square feet at the same film thickness.

DRYING TIME: Dries to the touch in 1 to 2 hours, under normal drying conditions. Allow to dry overnight, or approx. 12 hours, before applying final coat.

CLEAN-UP: Keep a damp cloth handy to wipe up spills immediately. Clean hands, brushes, rollers, tools and other equipment immediately after use in warm, soapy water.

PRODUCT LIMITATION: "Surface Conditioner & Primer" is not formulated to be used as a finish coat; so it should always be overcoated with a high grade latex finish paint.

CAUTION! Harmful if swallowed. Do not take internally. Close container after each use. Avoid prolonged contact with skin and breathing of vapors. Use with adequate ventilation.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.

KEEP FROM FREEZING while in storage or transit before application.
