SOMAY ACRYLIC LATEX PRIMER/UNDERCOATER

Product No. 553

PRODUCT USE: This high quality SOMAY Acrylic Latex Primer/ Undercoater has been formulated especially for exterior or interior use in severe climates, on surfaces such as wood and metal, when an acrylic latex based, water-thinned primer is desired.

RECOMMENDED FOR: SOMAY Acrylic Latex Primer/Undercoater can be used on painted or unpainted surfaces that are properly prepared, especially wood and non-ferrous metal. Can be used as a primer/undercoater under either a solvent-thinned (oil based) or water-thinned (acrylic latex based) finish coat. NOT recommended as a finish coat or as a primer on unprimed ferrous metal surfaces.

SURFACE PREPARATION: The secret of a successful painting job is proper surface preparation. Surfaces MUST be free of anything which could adversely affect the adhesion of this coating to the surface, including loose, scaling, peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking, flaking, chalking or powdering paint; dust, dirt, sand, soot, grease, oil, tar, wax, soap film or petroleum-based residue; lye, lime, chlorine, salt, calcimine, efflorescence, or any other chemically reactive substance; and must be completely free of all mold, fungus, mildew or any other growing organism of any kind. Infirm surfaces MUST be made firm.

Scrape off all loose, peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking or flaking paint. Wire brushing, pressure cleaning, power sanding or sandblasting may be used to remove powdering and chalking paint. To remove dirt, grease, etc., wash with water and detergent and then rinse thoroughly with clean water. To remove mildew, fungus, etc., scrub with a solution made with 16 fluid ounces (473 mL) of liquid household bleach and 2 fluid ounces (59 mL) of detergent in one gallon (3.785 L) of water. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. Patch all cracks, and when dry, sand smooth and seal. You should have a completely clean and firm surface before any new coating is applied.

UNPAINTED WOOD SURFACES: Seal knots. Countersink nails, putty the holes and seal. When the surface is completely clean and dry, apply one coat of SOMAY Acrylic Latex Primer/Undercoater. Allow to dry. Apply finish coat.

UNPAINTED MASONRY, DRYWALL, PLASTER SURFACES: Be sure surface is clean and dry. Patch all cracks and, when dry, sand smooth. When the surface is completely clean and dry, apply a coat of SOMAY Acrylic Latex Primer/ Undercoater. Apply finish coat.

PREVIOUSLY PAINTED WOOD SURFACES: Remove all dirt and foreign matter. Scrape off all loose paint. Wire brushing or power sanding may be necessary to remove loose, powdery or heavily chalked paint. Prime all bare wood with SOMAY Acrylic Latex Primer/Undercoater and allow to dry. Sand all glossy surfaces, if any, or apply liquid sandpaper, according to directions on the can. Apply finish coat.

APPLICATION: Apply only at temperatures above 50° F. (10° C). Stir thoroughly before using and occasionally while using. Apply generously, using brush or roller. Avoid excessive brushing or rolling. DO NOT THIN or ADULTERATE with any additives.

COVERAGE: To develop a 2 mil dry film thickness, apply at a rate of 300 square feet per gallon on a smooth, non-porous surface. On a porous, rough or textured surface, a gallon should cover from 150 to 250 square feet at the same film thickness.

DRYING TIME: Dries to the touch in 1 to 2 hours under normal drying conditions. Drying time will vary, depending on surface and air temperature, humidity, wind or air movement, exposure to sunlight, etc. Allow to dry overnight or approx. 12 hours, before applying final coat.

CLEAN-UP: Keep a damp cloth handy to wipe up spills immediately. Clean hands, brushes, rollers, tools and other equipment immediately after use in warm, soapy water.

CAUTION! Harmful if swallowed. Do not take internally. Close container after each use. Avoid prolonged contact with skin and breathing of vapors. Use with adequate ventilation.

KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN.
