PRODUCT BENEFITS: This high quality SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer
has been formulated especially for exterior or interior use in severe climates, on ferrous metal surfaces when a rust and corrosion inhibitive alkyd-oil based, solvent-thinned, primer is desired. SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer meets U. S. Federal Specification TT-P-636, Red. RECOMMENDED: SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer is recommended for exterior or interior use on
painted or unpainted ferrous metal surfaces that are properly prepared. Can be used as a primer/ undercoater under either a solvent-thinned (oil based) or water-thinned (acrylic latex based) finish coat. NOT
recommended as a finish coat or for use as a primer for non-ferrous or galvanized metal. SURFACE PREPARATION:
The secret of a successful painting job is proper surface preparation. Surfaces MUST be free of anything which could adversely affect the adhesion of this coating to the surface, including loose, scaling, peeling, blistering, chipping, cracking, flaking, chalking or powdering paint; dust, dirt, sand, soot, grease, oil, tar, wax, soap film or petroleum-based residue; lye, lime, salt, chlorine, calcimine, efflorescence, or any other chemically reactive substance; and must be completely free of all mold, fungus, mildew or any other growing organism of any kind. Infirm surfaces MUST be made firm.
UNPAINTED FERROUS METAL SUR-FACES: Be sure metal is clean, dry and free of rust or oxidation. UNPAINTED RUSTING OR OXIDIZING FERROUS METAL SURFACES:
Rust and oxidation should be completely removed by using a stiff wire brush, power sander and/or scraper to be sure you have a firm, clean surface. Then the rusty areas should be treated with a Ferrous Metal Pretreatment product.
PREVIOUSLY PAINTED FERROUS METAL SURFACES:
Remove all dirt and foreign matter. Scrape off all loose paint. Wire brushing or power sanding may be necessary to remove loose, powdery or heavily chalked paint. Sand all glossy surfaces. Surface must be properly prepared, completely clean and dry, prior to applying
SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer. APPLICATION: Stir SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer thoroughly before using. Apply with a clean, good quality brush, roller or spray. One coat should be
sufficient under the finish coat. Apply only at temperatures above 50° F. (10° C). Do not apply in damp or rainy weather. THINNING: Use SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer as
received in the can, without thinning or diluting for most surfaces. If paint seems too thick or heavy, thin sparingly with mineral spirits or paint thinner, never using more than one-half pint (8 fl. oz.)
per gallon of paint. Excessive thinning reduces the quality and durability of this and any other good paint. COVERAGE:
Apply at a spreading rate not exceeding 400 sq.ft. per gallon on a smooth, non-porous surface. On a rough, textured or porous surface, a gallon will usually cover fewer sq. ft. DRYING TIME:
Dries in 12 to 24 hours, under normal drying conditions. Drying time will vary depending on weather conditions such as temperature, humidity, wind, etc. Allow SOMAY Ferrous Metal Primer to
properly dry before applying finish coat. CLEAN UP:
Keep a cloth dampened with mineral spirits or paint thinner handy while painting to wipe up spills immediately. Clean brushes, rollers, tools and other application equipment immediately after use with mineral spirits, turpentine or synthetic reducer, before paint dries thoroughly.
DANGER! HARMFUL OR FATAL IF SWALLOWED. COMBUSTIBLE LIQUID AND VAPOR. VAPOR HARMFUL. MAY AFFECT THE BRAIN OR NERVOUS SYSTEM CAUSING
DIZZINESS, HEADACHE OR NAUSEA. CAUSES EYE IRRITATION. CAUSES SKIN IRRITATION. CAUSES NOSE AND THROAT IRRITATION NOTICE:
Reports have associated repeated and prolonged occupational overexposure to solvents with permanent brain and nervous system damage. Intentional misuse by deliberately concentrating and
inhaling the contents may be harmful or fatal. Keep away from heat and flame. Prevent build-up of vapors by opening all windows and doors to achieve cross-ventilation
. USE ONLY WITH ADEQUATE VENTILATION. Do not breathe vapors. Ensure fresh air entry during application and drying. If you experience eye watering, headache or
dizziness or if air monitoring demonstrates vapor levels are above applicable limits, wear an appropriate, properly fitted respirator (NIOSH/MSHA approved) during and after application. Follow
respirator manufacturer's directions for respirator use. Close container after each use. Avoid contact with eyes, skin and clothing. Wash thoroughly after handling.
KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN. FIRST AID:If you experience difficulty in breathing, leave the area to obtain fresh air. If continued
difficulty is experienced, get medical assistance immediately. In case of eye contact, flush immediately with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and get medical attention immediately; for skin, wash
thoroughly with soap and water. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting. Call physician immediately. If spilled, contain spilled material and remove with inert absorbent. Dispose of contaminated
absorbent, container and unused contents in accordance with local, state and federal regulations. LIMITED WARRANTY / LIMITED LIABILITY:SOMAY warrants that, at the time of purchase
