Solar Heat Insulator
SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC"® is a cool roof coating that acts as an excellent solar heat insulator. Based on independent laboratory research, SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" has a thermal conductivity rating similar to that of wood or insulating firebrick, and 1/100 that of steel, and 1/1000 that of aluminum! Conclusion: SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" is "considered a very good thermal insulator" ... i.e., it is a very poor conductor of heat and therefore, an ideal cool roof coating to make possible an energy efficient roof.
Solar Heat Reflector
SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC"® is an excellent solar heat reflector. "White" SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" is a cool roof coating with a solar reflectance value of 84.5%, which is exceptionally high for a coating, leading to the conclusion that SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" is "superior in relation to all common building materials in the rejection of radiated heat" ... i.e., it is a very poor absorber of heat, and therefore, an ideal cool roof coating to make possible an energy efficient roof.
Emittance is a measure of how well a surface or material gives off (or emits) the energy it absorbs. All roof surfaces reflect some of the sun's energy and absorb some of the sun's energy as heat. High-emitting roof surfaces give off absorbed heat quickly & upward (and out of the building). Emittance is a number between 0 and 1, where 1 would be a theoretically perfect emitter. A rating of 0.845 is a very high rating and desirable to keep heat out of air conditioned space.
Thus, SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC"® is unique among building materials in that it is BOTH a very good THERMAL INSULATOR (Non-Conductor of Heat) and a superior THERMAL REFLECTOR (Non-Absorber of Heat).
Having an Energy Efficient Roof Reduces Air Conditioning Costs
Because of its unique energy efficient properties, SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC"® can turn your existing roof into an energy efficient roof that can significantly reduce air conditioning energy consumption. This was confirmed by additional independent research conducted by The Florida Solar Energy Center (Part of The State University System of Florida), as shown in Report No. FSEC-P-F-274-94. Results after the cool roof coating was applied to a variety of roof surfaces, including asphalt shingles, bitumen, tile roofs, etc. showed that the SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC:"
- Increased roof reflectivity over 234% (from .22 to .73).
- Reduced roof top surface temperatures over 35% (from 170° F. to 110° F. = 60° F. reduction).
- Reduced under roof (attic) temperatures over 31% (from 134° F. to 93° F. = 41° F. reduction equal to practically ambient temperature)
- Reduced Air Conditioning Energy Consumption over 43% (from 1478 W. to 838 W.). , and "savings would have been higher had the house had an air conditioner capable of meeting the cooling demands prior to the application of SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC." After the SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" application, the air conditioner CAN keep the house interior cool!"
