CONCRETE TILE & SLATE ROOFS
Flat Tile or Slate – Whether it's a flat tile roof or a quarry slate roof, when it gets old and the tar paper underneath dries out, it begins to leak. Tiles or slates are very expensive to replace, but, by just caulking the joints with SOMAY "PATCH & SEAL" and applying two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC over the entire roof, the original tile or slate roof is completely sealed and waterproofed. The roof will retain its rich appearance and since SOMAY ROOF MASTIC last indefinitely, the roof will not have to be painted for many years.
Barrel Tile - Magnificent hand-made clay barrel tiles are literally irreplaceable … no one makes them by hand anymore.
Poured Reinforced Concrete – Architects have specified SOMAY ROOF MASTIC for application on thousands of poured reinforced concrete roofs in the Caribbean. Most poured-concrete roofs develop hairline cracks which leak. Two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC will seal and waterproof a concrete roof. It also waterproofs poured concrete walls, concrete block and stucco (CBS) walls, etc. It's easy to seal leaks indefinitely with SOMAY ROOF MASTIC.

SHINGLE ROOFS
Asphalt Shingle – Asphalt shingles are supposedly "guaranteed" for many years. But, under the hot tropical sun, asphalt-based roof materials deteriorate very badly in just a few years. The asphalt loses its sealing and flexing properties, becoming brittle and developing cracks and leaks. And asphalt materials attract and hold the sun's heat, adding to the cost of air conditioning. One coat of SOMAY "PRIME & SEAL, Product No. 7751, and two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC will seal, waterproof, protect and preserve asphalt shingle roofs to make them last indefinitely.
Asbestos Shingle – although many roofs may "appear" to be in good condition, if the invisible tar paper underneath the shingles has dried out and cracked, the roof will leak. One coat of SOMAY "PRIME & SEAL, Product No. 7751, and two coats of SOMAY ROOF MASTIC applied directly over an original asbestos shingle roof, will seal, waterproof and totally protect your roof. The homeowner will be completely spared the dirt, mess, noise and annoyance or ripping off the old roof and applying a new one.

Note: Miami-Dade County, Florida, does not approve the use of any manufacturer's paint or coating on any asphaltic roof shingle within its legal jurisdiction.
FOAM ROOFS
Foam Insulation – closed-cell polyurethane foam insulation installed on the top of existing roofs must be protected from moisture and the sun's ultra-violet rays to be effective and durable. SOMAY ROOF MASTIC seals, waterproofs and protects the insulation on a sloped roof surface where there are no puddles after a rainstorm, to help make it last for many, many years.
METAL ROOFS
Metal Roofs – including sloped or pitched or inclined roofs of aluminum, copper, ferrous metal, galvanized steel (corrugated or smooth sheets), etc., can be coated to be protected from the exposure to the elements in order to dramatically reduce degradation or deterioration. On ferrous metal, we recommend a rust inhibitive primer, such as SOMAY/Carboline "Rustbond" Sealer be applied to the steel surface prior to the application of the SOMAY ROOF MASTIC.

USE RESTRICTIONS
Flat Roofs with Ponding Water – According to Miami-Dade County Building Code, a roof must have a minimum slope of ¼-inch per 12 inches to be considered a sloped, or pitched or inclined roof. Roofs with less pitch are considered "flat" roofs. SOMAY does NOT recommend the SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" system be applied on a "flat" roof that has "ponding" water (puddles of water after a rainstorm). Rather SOMAY believes one should use only coatings especially formulated for constant immersion in water.
SOMAY Product No. 814-01, Rubber Waterproofing Coating, "Reflective White", is a single-component, rubber-copolymer, elastomeric waterproofing sealant and coating for flat roof surfaces. It has Energy Star® and UL Class A Fire Rating Certification. Apply two (2) coats, each at a maximum spreading rate of no more than 70 sq.ft./gal. per coat on a smooth, non-porous surface, to develop 10 mils DFT per coat, totaling 20 mils DFT for 2 coats. Rough and/or very porous surfaces will required the use of considerably more material to develop the required dry film thickness. Substitute SOMAY "Polaroof RAC" as the first or prime coat over old asphalt surfaces to prevent tar color "bleed through" and discoloration of the "White" color of the finish coating. It's smart roof maintenance practice to clean the roof a couple of times each year!
Tar and Gravel Surfaces – On any tar and gravel surface we recommend that ALL the gravel be removed in order that one has a sloped, clean, very smooth, firm and dry surface on which to apply a coating. If the gravel is not removed, then one will use many times more material to build a coating film, and risk the possibility that the coating could have voids and not form a satisfactory waterproofing membrane over the entire surface area. Therefore, SOMAY cannot recommend the application of any coating over any tar and gravel roof surface when the purpose of the coating is to build a waterproofing coating or membrane on top of the tar and gravel roof surface.
Other Use Restrictions – SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" is NOT intended for use on: improperly prepared, infirm or structurally unsound surface; on tar and gravel roof surfaces; on wooden shake covered surfaces; below normal grade or ground level; on the inside of tanks or pools; where it will be subject to constant immersion or standing water for an extended period of time; where it will subjected to any acts of carelessness which might cause a puncture or rupture of the waterproofing membrane, such as pedestrian traffic, moving heavy furniture with rough feet, the installation of air conditioners or antennas through the roof, etc.
