Note: This asphalt shingle roof, protected with SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC", survived Hurricane Andrew's 175 mph. winds. All the nearby shingle roofs sustained extensive damage. Picture was taken five (5) years after coating application.

"Last year (2005) we applied your "ROOF MASTIC" to my 50+ year old concrete barrel tile roof. Unlike many of my neighbors with new "hurricane resistant" roofs which lost tiles, my roof (three blocks from the beach) made it through all the storms (including Katrina and Wilma) without a leak or a lost tile.
"Last year I had my windows caulked with "PATCH & SEAL" (leftover from my roof). Last week I had a few of those windows replaced. After the screws were removed from the old windows, the crew still struggled with crow bars trying to rip out the old windows. NOTE: These rehabilitated roofs, with Atlantic Oceanfront exposure, withstood over 24 hours of two direct hits from two Hurricanes in 2004 without any damage whatsoever! We know of no coating system that can better withstand the potential damage that can be caused by sustained hurricane force winds exceeding 115 miles per hour.

The SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC" Roof Sealer & Protector System is a 3 coat System on sloped roofs such as asphalt shingles, fiberglass shingles, roll roofing, 90-lb. "slate", etc.
On tile roofs, including Spanish Clay Barrel Tiles, Flat Concrete Tiles and S-Shaped Tiles (pictured above), there is another very important step that is essential to both seal and protect the tile roof surface.
This requires the use of SOMAY Product No. 992, SOMAY "PATCH & SEAL", a 100% Acrylic Latex (waterborne) Elastomeric Caulk that is a brushing grade for rapid application by brush. It is made with exactly the same resin, pigments, etc. as the "ROOF MASTIC" coating, so the two products are completely compatible, but No. 992 is a much thicker version to use to fill the gaps between the roof tiles.
This picture shows a very neat SOMAY "PATCH & SEAL" application job done by a "Do-It-Yourself" homeowner on his own tile roof in Weston, Broward County, Florida.
The "PATCH & SEAL" application was followed by 2 coats of SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC", Terracotta color. A picture of the completed "ROOF MASTIC" job may be seen just above.

Surface Preparation:
Roof surface treated with Chlorine (2-3%) to kill mold, mildew, fungus, then rinsed with clean water from a garden hose. Note: pressure cleaning is not recommended on asphalt shingles. Allow surface to dry for several days @ 50% R.H. to be sure it is thoroughly dry.
First Coat:
SOMAY Product No. 842-00, SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC", Sealer & Protector – "Crystal Clear", applied at a max. spreading rate of 60 sq.ft./gal. to develop a 10 mil dry film thickness. Allowed to dry "Clear" before application of next coat, normally 2 or more good drying days @ 50% Relative Humidity. Do not overlap, apply too thickly, or overfill cut-outs between shingle tabs.
Second Coat:
SOMAY Product No. 842-00, SOMAY "ROOF MASTIC", Sealer & Protector – "Crystal Clear", applied at a max. spreading rate of 60 sq.ft./gal. to develop another 10 mils dry film thickness.
Total:
Recommended minimum 20 mils dry film thickness for 2 coats. For even longer durability, additional coats can be applied after each successive coat is thoroughly dry.
Product No. 842-00 has the consistency of and looks like white paste in the can, but when applied over completely dry surfaces and not applied too thickly, it dries "Crystal Clear". It must NOT be thinned or adulterated with anything.
